The second season of Smiling Friends was greenlit on February 9, 2022, one month after the series premiered.[2] On March 24, 2024, it was announced that the season would premiere on March 31, 2024 at midnight, however, this was an April Fools prank. [3] The first episode of the season, "Gwimbly: Definitive Remastered Enhanced Extended Edition DX 4K (Anniversary Director’s Cut)" premiered on Adult Swim after puppet-ified versions of previous episodes "Mr. Frog," "Shrimp's Odyssey," and "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back." aired.
The rest of the season began airing starting on May 12, 2024, with episodes being added to Max the day after their Adult Swim premieres. The season concluded on June 23, 2024 with "Pim Finally Turns Green".

"Delve into the world of Smiling Friends, where Pim, Charlie, Zongo, Allan and Glep fight off evildoers and nasty baddies and maybe some characters smile on the way as well! After all, it IS their job!!! This SHALL be an epic season and you SHALL enjoy it!" [4]

According to information from The New York Comic Con panel [5] :
- As of October 2023, the season is in its animation stage, with the entire season boarded roughly animated at that point.
- Like the first season, episodes will feature a wider variety of animation styles, including 2D, 3D, stop motion and live-action content.
- Mr. Frog returns in the episode "Mr. President" [6]
