Smiling Friends Wiki

Blast! Foiled again!

Satan is the main antagonist of the episode "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back" and the overarching antagonist of "Erm, the Boss Finds Love?".

Appearance[]

He is a giant, brawny, imposing CGI figure with typically demonic features: red, leathery skin, large black horns, and bat wings. His face is reminiscent of a skull, lacking a nose, eyelids, cheeks or lips.

He wears a pair of black pants.

Personality[]

His personality traits are similar to those from traditional depictions, such as him taking pleasure in the suffering of those around him and lying to others in order to appeal to their darkest desires.

However, he deviates from the commonly understood idea of Satan because of his casual demeanor and mundane habits. He despises his overwhelming and thankless workload, causing him to develop several unconventional vices, such as frequently ordering fast food, consistently vaping, and being on his computer all day. Many of these addictions developed from Satan using them as a way to escape from his issues rather than confronting them head on. During this phase, he was shown to be somewhat affable, lazy, and nonchalant, but notably irritable.

However, after Charlie accidentally offends him by criticizing his flaws, this relit the malevolent fire inside of him.

Background[]

Much like in Divine Comedy, Lucifer led a rebellion against God only to fail after God and his angels defeated him with himself being defeated by his older brother, Michael. After being casted from Heaven, he ruled over Hell ever since.

Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back[]

After Charlie wakes up in Hell after an accidental death, he is informed by a demon that Satan, feeling depressed and managing Hell poorly, has caused it to freeze over. Charlie sets off on a journey to make him smile.

Upon arrival, Charlie finds Satan in a less imposing state than expected, engrossed in video games amidst a cluttered room of laundry and junk. Satan explains to Charlie that he's been putting off filing his paperwork and responding to work emails, mostly due to the fact he doesn't get paid until the end of his job - which lasts for all eternity. Charlie asks if he could be sent back to Earth if he can help cheer him up, to which he agrees. Charlie is interrupted by a MeepEats deliveryman who delivers a meal from Salty's to Satan, although they forgot the straw which annoys him. Charlie continues by saying Satan is likely unhappy because he's stuck in a loop of short-term dopamine rushes, and suggests he starts small like including more healthy food in his diet. However, he responds with offense, saying that the "criticism" put him in a worse mood and takes a smoke from his vape pen.

Charlie points out that he's avoiding the problem by doing so, but Satan, now furious, orders Charlie to be tortured by demons. He remarks how Charlie's suffering fills him with joy, to which Charlie points out he just made him smile and therefore fulfilled his end of the deal. However, he refuses to let him go due to how he still pissed him off, but is interrupted by God, who rescues Charlie. He is last seen lamenting that God foiled him again, but with Hell back to its usual fiery state.

Erm, the Boss Finds Love?[]

Mr. Boss ends up marrying a grotesque, monstrous woman named Brittney. However, she is later revealed to be Satan's daughter, who emerges every one hundred years to seduce influential men, kill them, and grant their belongings to her father. She later dies after falling out of a window. Yet, Mr. Boss' marriage to her grants him ownership over 1/4th of Hell. In the end credits scene, Satan and Mr. Boss are seen arguing about where exactly each person's property starts and ends.

Relationships[]

Charlie[]

Initially, Satan was receptive to having Charlie help cheer him up, and agreed to make a deal with him so he'd return to the land of the living if he did so. However, as soon as Charlie began to get on his nerves due to consistently pointing out his flaws, he rescinded the deal and tried to keep Charlie around for all of eternity.

God[]

Satan is shown trying to undermine God's plans, as not only does he curse "blast, foiled again" upon his nemesis rescuing Charlie from his torture, but he tries to manipulate mortals into falling under his control via the use of his daughters.

Mr. Boss[]

Satan doesn't like his son-in-law, especially since he now owns a quarter of all of Hell. The only interaction the two are shown having is them arguing over where Mr. Boss' territory in Hell starts and end, with Satan trying to be in a more advantageous situation. However, in the end, he gives up since if he tries to violate the agreement with Mr Boss, God will definitely come knocking and makes him honor the deal. This followed an attempt by Satan to gain control of Mr. Boss' company and influence through his daughter Brittney.
