Smiling Friends Wiki

"These paperclips are absolutely perfect for tinkering with any machine I've come across. By the way, I'm not a flashback, I actually died. Like, not long after you left my store. Anyways, I should be getting back to Hell now."
—Plilford, "A Allan Adventure"

Plilford is a character in Smiling Friends who debuts in "A Allan Adventure." He was the owner-operator of Plilford's Electro Shack, located in the neighborhood of Crimeville, before he died from an unknown cause.

Appearance[]

He is an elderly critter with a long, curvy nose and a large, saggy head with numerous fat-rolls and wrinkles. He has twig-like arms and hands with spindly fingers. He has no teeth.

He wears glasses, a loose white shirt, brown pants, and a black belt with a gold buckle.

Personality[]

Plilford is a soft-spoken, kind electronics store operator who likes to tinker and play around with different electronic equipment. He's a very generous and thankful soul, evident when he gives Allan his box of paperclips after his suggestion turned out to help him, ecstatic upon learning about the usefulness of his nose. He also returns as a ghost to help Allan defeat Mr. Landlord and turn off his bomb, reminding him that the paperclips can be used to tinker with electronic devices. He is somewhat paranoid, as he begged for mercy when Allan simply entered his store initially, expecting to get robbed, although this is understandable as his store operates in the highly dysfunctional neighborhood of Crimeville.

Due to being sentenced to Hell, it could be inferred that he did some rather bad acts whilst he was alive. Due to the setting's propensity of damning people to Hell for over the most minor of slights, however, it's entirely likely that he didn't do anything major to deserve such punishment.

Role in episode[]

Allan enters his store looking for paperclips, which Plilford mistakes for a robbery. He initially refuses to sell the paperclips to Allan, as he only has one box left, and they are the only things that he uses to tinker with his electronics.

Upon Allan's suggestion that he uses his long, crooked nose instead, which resembles the exact shape of his paperclips, this blows his mind, and as a result he gives Allan his box of paperclips in gratitude.

At the end of the episode, he appears to Allan like a flashback, reminding him about the paperclips being useful to tinker with electronics, which leads Allan to disable his landlord's bomb. However, he reveals that he is not a flashback, and in fact died not long after Allan left his store, and is dragged down to Hell immediately after.
