Jeremy is the secondary antagonist of the episode "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back." He is an inhabitant of Hell who serves as Charlie's only form of hellish entertainment.
Appearance[]
Jeremy is a tall, extremely thin demon with black skin and elongated arms ending in three lengthy, spindly fingers. Sprouting from the shoulders of his extremely disproportionate torso are two withered wings, noticeably missing their membranes. He has two large eyes on the top of his head with scribbled pupils, and he stands upon two stilt-like legs.
Personality[]
Jeremy is an obnoxious, cowardly and extremely annoying individual whose only goal is to "entertain" his victims by screaming and flailing his arms in their faces. He persistently pursues this goal, continuing his antics even after being warned of potential consequences. When Charlie punches him in the gut, Jeremy reels from the attack and melodramatically groans in pain as he collapses to the ground. Yet, he quickly recovers and returns for revenge, punching Charlie in the face later on as he is being restrained and tortured.
He seems to be good friends with the plump demon, as shown when he patted him on the back with a sympathetic expression on his face, after Charlie hurt his feelings.
Role in episode[]
After Charlie gets crushed by a Christmas tree that he was chopping down, he dies and awakes in Hell, where he is greeted by a plump demon claiming to be his new master. The plump demon then introduces Jeremy as being Charlie's only form of hellish entertainment. Jeremy then rapidly flails his long fingers in Charlie's face while screaming obnoxiously, prompting Charlie to threaten him with assault if he does it again. Before leaving to go make Satan smile and potentially return to the living world, Charlie unintentionally insults the plump demon's attempts to make an authentic Hell for him, causing him to break down in tears. Jeremy consoles the demon as he cries while glaring angrily at Charlie.
Later as Charlie nears Satan's abode, Jeremy appears again to annoy Charlie, rapidly flailing his fingers in the yellow critter's face before receiving a swift punch to the gut. As Jeremy melodramatically reels from the assault, Charlie points out angrily that he warned him such a thing would happen. Charlie later offends Satan in his attempt to make him smile, prompting the ruler of Hell to order the Smiling Friend bound and tortured by his minions, during which Jeremy appears one last time to punch Charlie in the face, giving him a black eye.
Trivia[]
- Jeremy normally has three fingers on both hands, but when he punches Charlie he has thumbs.
- Jeremy (or Jeremiah) is a biblical name, and relates to "Jeremiah the weeping prophet." The name means something along the lines of "God will uplift," which seems rather ironic for a demon. However, God does indeed uplift Charlie at the end of the episode.
- Jeremy's entire gag of being a creature that throws its fingers in peoples' faces while making gibberish noises may be a reference to a hypothetical from Oneyplays, in which Zach asked what his friends would do if such a creature existed.
