James is a character in Smiling Friends and the secondary antagonist of the episode "Gwimbly: Definitive Remastered Enhanced Extended Edition DX 4K (Anniversary Director’s Cut)."
Appearance[]
James is a stocky, muscular humanlike critter with pale pinkish-white skin. He is bald, with piercing red eyes, a sharp nose and chin, and a thick neck, mostly resembling a skinhead. He wears a dark grey shirt featuring a faded skull, crimson pants, a black belt, and black jester-like shoes.
Personality[]
James is an aggressive and mean-spirited man who displays little regard for societal boundaries or respect towards others. He barged into the Smiling Friends HQ, trashed the break room, and coerced Charlie into performing dozens of useless tasks due to a loophole that requires the Smiling Friends to make their clients smile at all costs. He asks numerous questions without caring about the answers and requests things that he doesn't actually want, such as milk and a casserole, both of which he threw against the wall. He often bullies and emasculates Charlie, even going as far as ripping his nose off of his face because he was "sick of staring at it," later mocking him childishly when he called for help. He has no compunction towards killing as he threatened Charlie’s life and stabbed the CEO of Insane Groundbreaking Games in the head, killing him, which finally made James smile.
Much later, it appears that all of his bullying stems from his view of Charlie as the only person who cared about him. Unable to express himself in any capacity beyond mental and physical abuse, James is either a repressed homosexual who has feelings for Charlie, or a deeply antisocial individual who perceived Charlie as the only person who could endure his behavior for such a long time and, consequently, help him find happiness. He is shown in his dilapidated apartment, drinking alcohol and regretting pushing Charlie away, consumed by self-loathing.
Trivia[]
- His design is quite similar to one of the guests from A Silly Halloween Special who helped kill the Forest Demon as he also had pale skin and wore a black skull shirt. Whether he is supposed to be the same character as James is unconfirmed.
The character resembling James
- His rage could be a side effect from steroid use if he's the same person in A Silly Halloween Special.
- One theory says James killed this person and took his shirt.
- When Gwimbly is doing a Cameo request, he mentions a person named "James from Idaho." It is unknown if this person and James are the same person.
- If this is true, James may have specifically targeted Charlie due to his close connection to his adversary Tyler.
- It would also make him killing the CEO make sense
