Smiling Friends Wiki

Glep is one of the two deuteragonists of Smiling Friends alongside Allan. He is a small green critter who is an employee at Smiling Friends Inc., though his exact job within the company is unknown. Glep mostly speaks in a fast-paced gibberish language called Wingon. Despite this, Glep can be understood by the majority of the cast.

Appearance[]

Body[]

Glep is a small green-colored critter who has very small limbs and large eyes located beside his beak-like mouth.

Clothing[]

Glep usually wears a purple wizard-style hat.

In "Frowning Friends," he dons the rival company's security uniform.

In "The Smiling Friends Go to Brazil!" and "Pim Finally Turns Green," this hat is replaced by a similarly colored baseball cap, giving Glep more of a "touristy" look.

Personality[]

Glep is a very lazy and laid-back critter, mostly seen watching videos on his tablet, sleeping, or just lounging in the break room. When his coworkers ask him questions or converse with him, he often responds sluggishly or unenthusiastically. He is easily irritated as shown on multiple occasions, such as when Allan asked if he took a paperclip in "Desmond's Big Day Out," his career-making spit take at Rex during Mr. Frog auditions, and at Pim's yelling in "A Allan Adventure." In general, Glep likes to keep to himself and his activities, responding to any distractions with annoyance or dismissiveness. He also appears to be somewhat absent-minded, wandering around Mr. Boss' office aimlessly during "The Magical Red Jewel (aka Tyler Gets Fired)."

Although Glep communicates in gibberish, the other Smiling Friends seem to view him as perceptive and insightful based on his suggestions and remarks. This is illustrated when he provides his perspective on voting for Mr. Frog in "Mr. President," and when he advises Pim and Charlie to keep Rotten alive by storing him in the freezer. In both instances, his ideas are praised, with the other critters expressing admiration for his unique thinking.

Glep is seemingly attracted to tall and curvaceous women, judging by his wife and the fact Pim teased him about seeing "hot Brazilian girls" at the beach.

Role in series[]

"Helping" Desmond[]

In "Desmond's Big Day Out," Glep is seen sleeping on a beanbag chair in the main office. Later, he is shown still on the beanbag, now on his tablet watching a video. While Allan is looking for a missing paper clip, he asks Glep if he has taken it, which causes Glep to become irritated with him.

After Desmond finds a purpose in life with Desmond's Bliblie Control, Glep is seen cleaning the mess left over from the Bliblie infestation. When the creature smashes out of the TV in the office, Glep runs off scared.

Replacing Mr. Frog[]

In "Mr. Frog," Glep auditions to replace Mr. Frog after he was fired. As he walks in, Glep is initially ridiculed by Rex for his appearance, but Glep retaliates by spitting on him, prompting Rex to hire Glep because he has 'that raw bad boy edge' the real Mr. Frog had. Glep dances cheerfully afterward.

During the readthrough, Glep reads his script and spits at the end of his lines, which becomes the central gag to the new show. However, Rex later tells Glep to stop the spitting, as the studio finds it toxic. At the rehearsal, Glep continues to spit after his lines which causes Rex to assault him. In response, Glep gets annoyed and becomes unenthusiastic.

At the first performance of the Mr. Frog Show, Glep delivers his lines sluggishly and without spitting. The new show is met with a negative response from the audience, surprising Rex. After Mr. Frog devours Rex, Glep's time with the show ends as Mr. Frog's career is reinstated.

Voting for Mr. Frog[]

In "Mr. President," Glep's vote for Mr. Frog in the election was the deciding factor in him becoming president-elect of the United States. When asked why he chose to vote for Mr. Frog, Glep appears to give a very straightforward and insightful response that the rest of the Smiling Friends (except for Mr. Boss, who has already left the room to assassinate Mr. Frog at this point) agree with despite initially being upset at his decision.

Glep the Gardener[]

In "Erm, the Boss Finds Love?," Glep was tasked by Brittney to tend to her black rose garden, with Charlie mentioning that Glep hates gardening. When Brittney falls out the window and gets impaled by her own roses, Glep spits on her before angrily walking inside to avoid the rain.

Jason 2.0[]

In "The Magical Red Jewel (aka Tyler Gets Fired)," Mr. Boss' son, Jason, seemingly dies while in Charlie and Allan's care. As a solution, they decide to paint Glep pink and put him in a suit as the replacement. When Charlie explains that Glep will have to be breastfed by Mr. Boss to fulfill the role, a disgusted Glep decides to bail and tear off the suit he was wearing.

Relationships[]

Pim Pimling[]

Glep has not been seen interacting extensively with Pim in the show thus far, but they appear to be quite amicable with each other. However, Glep becomes annoyed with Pim's yelling in "A Allan Adventure," and promptly puts on his headphones.

Charlie Dompler[]

Glep also has not been shown interacting extensively with Charlie, but is amicable with him as well. He is seen at Charlie's funeral during "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back" mourning his death, and replies "uh huh" when Charlie suggests there is nothing like chilling with him in the break room, albeit unenthusiastically. However, he is also seen being annoyed by Charlie during "Frowning Friends", punching him between the legs for not sticking up for his fellow Smiling Friends. He also becomes annoyed at Charlie for suggesting he replace Jason after believing he died, finding the idea insulting and unpleasant.

Allan Red[]

Glep and Allan seem very tolerant of one another, and are often seen hanging with each other. They are shown playing video games in "Enchanted Forest," playing chess in "Mr. President" and going out for karaoke in "Pim Finally Turns Green," although the latter is implied to be a lie by Allan to avoid spending time with Rotten the Snowman. Allan also makes an effort to comfort Glep during Charlie's funeral in "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back." Their close relationship is likely because they both tend to work in the offices of Smiling Friends. Despite this, Glep appears to be mildly frustrated with Allan in "Desmond's Big Day Out" after Allan "accuses him" of taking a paperclip, interrupting him while he watches a video. He also becomes frustrated while playing video games with Allan in "Enchanted Forest."

Trivia[]

  • It is speculated by fans that Glep's job at Smiling Friends Inc. is the social media manager, because he is tech savvy, often seen on a phone or tablet, and he seems comfortable being viewed as a public figure (as seen in Mr. Frog).
  • At the end of "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back", an elderly Glep is shown reading to his grandchild. As well as the fact that he now appears to be fluent in English, a photo hanging above his fireplace shows Glep and his wife Marge at the desk of the Oval Office, the implication being that Glep became President of the United States at some point in his life. This event was somewhat foreshadowed by his and Marge's couple costume as Ronald and Nancy Reagan in "A Silly Halloween Special", though whether Glep himself ran as a Republican candidate is unknown.
  • At the end of "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back", Old Glep mentions "Christianity was right all along". Ironically, Joshua Tomar (Old Glep's voice actor) is Jewish.
  • Glep is possibly a reference to the Russian video Homonculus #2 from channel Как Сделать. The homonculus spits at its creator, and is then crushed with a Chinese to Russian dictionary (which Zach mistakenly calls a bible in Oney Plays Heart of Darkness - EP 5 - Burn Boy)
  • The episode "Mr. President" reveals many facts about Glep's personal information:
    • He is 1'6 and weighs 8 lbs.
    • He was born on July 9th, 329, currently making him 1696 years old.
    • He lives on 1352 Green Palm Terrace, Pennsylvania.
    • His eye, hair color, and sex are green.
    • His social security number is 999-45-6789.
  • Everyone knows Glep hates gardening.
  • Being over 1,600 years old, Glep is the oldest confirmed employee at Smiling Friends.
    • Despite this, he doesn't appear to age until the future when he's shown to become a grandfather, which may imply he ages very slowly.
  • He is the only employee to not have a confirmed surname.
    • It is presumed by fans to be "Simpson," as he is heavily implied to be married to Marge.
