The Fun Twins are a pair of minor characters in Smiling Friends, making their first and only appearance in "Who Violently Murdered Simon S. Salty?".
Appearance[]
The Fun Twins appear identical, possessing one large eyeball with a green iris in the center of their body and having long, spindly limbs. They both wear white gloves and brown shoes. The only only difference between the two twins is that one is blue and the other pink.
Background[]
The Fun Twins are two fast food mascots at the restaurant known as Salty's. The twins speak by producing high-pitched, fast-paced babbling noises. Despite this, Pim is able to understand their language perfectly.
After Charlie and Pim discover Simon S. Salty's body and were tasked by Mr. Boss to solve the murder, Ketchup listed the Fun Twins among the suspects and were locked inside the restaurant by Charlie until the murder was solved.
The Fun Twins were playing in Salty's jungle gym when they were questioned by Charlie and Pim what they were doing at the time of Simon S. Salty's murder. Instead of answering the question, the Twins tell them a story about them flying on a rocket to a planet with a face, where they ran around and stabbed all inhabitants. Pim compliments their story, but notes that they didn't answer his their question, leaving Charlie confused as to how Pim could understand them. The blue twin then spits on Pim's hand, which gives him a rash.
Charlie and Pim would eventually find the security tape that recorded Salty's death, revealing that each mascot attempted to murder him, with the Twins having stabbed his body with a cattle prod, though it is revealed that Salty died from a heart attack after eating his final burger. Believing that this meant they legally could go free, the mascots escaped Salty's, with the Twins frolicking in the street.
Trivia[]
- The Fun Twins are most likely based off the McDonaldland mascots, The Fry Kids.
- They are the only mascots that aren't based off a food product.
- The crude animation style used during their flashback is analogous to Michael Cusack's abstract work on his second channel, TedAnimationStudio.
- A popular fan theory suggests the Fun Twins originate from Spamtopia, as they act similarly chaotic to the Spamtopians and speak in gibberish which Pim, who speaks Spamish, can understand. If true, Pim getting spat on after looking the blue twin in the eye may be a reference to the Spamtopians' sensitivity regarding eye contact.
- In the DVD commentary for the episode, Michael Cusack refers to them as "spam creatures", possibly giving credit to this theory.
