Get outta mi head, man!
—DJ Spit, "Frowning Friends"

DJ Spit is a minor recurring character in Smiling Friends who appeared in the episodes "Frowning Friends", "A Allan Adventure"and"Squim Returns". He is an aspiring rapper who posts music on SoundCloud.

Appearance[]

Body[]

He is a slim, mustard-yellow critter with long, noodle-like arms that have no fingers. He has a slender build with prominent nipples and a visible ribcage. He has a slight stubble on his face, an elongated head and neck, and three wispy hairs coming from the back of his head. He also has thick eyebrows and red eyes positioned above his nose.

After recovering from the helicopter crash in A Allan Adventure, he now has a scar on his chest, as seen in Squim Returns.

Clothing[]

DJ Spit wears a Christian necklace, baggy blue striped pants, and black shoes.

Personality[]

DJ Spit is an aspiring singer/songwriter, but is often frustrated because nobody wants to listen to his music. He is depicted as somewhat absentminded, seen rhythmically mumbling "I'll knock your head off" to himself while standing idly on the sidewalk and consistently stumbling over his words. He is also extremely paranoid, accusing Pim and Charlie of messing with his head and promptly pulling a gun on them while losing his mind. He is often aggravated and/or aggressive, bordering on downright psychotic, and also routinely engages in criminal activies.

Biography[]

Frowning Friends[]

While seeking to compete with their rival business, Frowning Friends, Pim and Charlie hit the streets in search of clients to assist. They encounter DJ Spit, who is muttering threats to himself, and inquire about his distress. He explains that he always wanted to become a successful Soundcloud artist but struggles to attract listeners. Despite Pim and Charlie's efforts to aid him, he suspects they are Grim and Gnarly attempting to deceive him. This misunderstanding leads to a breakdown, and he brandishes a gun at the two.

After a similar confusion happens with Mr. Man, he echoes DJ Spit's breakdown while seemingly transforming into him.

Later, when Grim inadvertently reveals his cowardice and lack of commitment to his nihilistic agenda, DJ Spit becomes enraged by the apparent hypocrisy and decides to sever ties with the Frowning Friends

A Allan Adventure[]

While Allan is attempting to leave Crimeville with the paperclips he got from Plilford, DJ Spit randomly steals them, runs up to a rooftop, and hijacks a helicopter. He flies over a no-fly zone in order to escape to Tijuana, triggering an air battle with the US military. However, his helicopter is eventually shot down, leaving him impaled on a rotor blade after it crashes in a forest. He bleeds out and presumably dies despite calling for help.

However, Mr Landlord eventually reveals that Allan's day was orchestrated with paid actors and animatronics, suggesting that DJ Spit may still be alive. This is confirmed by his appearance in Squim Returns. Although, with the scar he has on his chest he was seemingly actually impaled by the blade and had surgery to save his life.

Squim Returns[]

Charlie rides a bus to work and encounters DJ Spit warning everyone about the bus driver being the devil and the bus crashing, something that actually happens when everyone but Charlie evacuate the bus when Charlie vomits. On his way to work, Charlie encounters DJ Spit once again, this time digging through trash, he warns him about the devil and isn't seen again in the episode.

Trivia[]

  • The Hyun's dojo community made a fan made music video of DJ Spit.
  • The song he plays for Pim and Charlie is called "SpiTz PaRadise."
    • The "we he he" at the end of the song is a reference to the way the characters laugh in "loud junk."
  • Although some believe he says "Get out of me head!" when yelling at Pim and Charlie, his vaguely Latino accent means he could actually be saying "Get out of mi head!", with "mi" being the possessive adjective of the first singular person in Spanish.
  • He was originally depicted with long pubic hairs extending out of his pants. However, as detailed in a Twitter thread by Ryan Krzak, the animator of the shot, they were digitally removed, likely for censorship reasons.
  • Mr. Man is briefly seen transforming into DJ Spit while echoing his "get out of mi head" breakdown. It is unclear if there is a connection between these two or if this is simply a one-off gag.
  • His appearance in Squim Returns was revealed early by adult swim on reddit
  • The scars on his chest in Squim Returns may imply that, despite being a paid actor for Mr. Landlord's scheme, his impalement via helicopter blade was not actually a part of the plan. Or it was and Mr. Landlord was willing to sacrifice DJ Spit’s life to accomplish his goal.
