Smiling Friends Wiki

Christopher Luke O'Neill (born 21 November, 1990), primarily known online as OneyNG or just Oney is an Irish animator, musician, artist, voice actor, game developer, and internet personality mainly known for hosting the comedic let's-play YouTube channel, OneyPlays, on which Smiling Friends co-creator Zach Hadel makes common appearances in alongside voice actors Lyle Rath (Mr. Man, The CEO of Insane Groundbreaking Games) and Joshua Tomar (Cop, Centaur, Elderly Glep, Count Groxia). Smiling Friends' other co-creator, Michael Cusack, also appeared on OneyPlays albeit in a one-off episode where he, Chris and Zach played Tom and Jerry for the SNES. He along with Mick Lauer and Zach Hadel were a part of the podcast SleepyCabin.

O'Neill composed the closing theme for Smiling Friends (Brown Smile) and voiced Smormu in "Shrimp's Odyssey" as well as the "Auditioning Father" in "Mr. Frog" and the Yeti in "Pim Finally Turns Green". He also provided the basic 3D sculpt of Satan, among other various animation, music and 3D effects.[1]

While creating the closing theme for Smiling Friends, Chris pressed random keys on his keyboard. He felt it fit the strange, zany nature of the show and thus kept it in.

OneyPlays[]

NOTE: It has been stated previously that many OneyPlays "references" are actually just common mannerisms of Zach. Please make sure that the reference you want to list is specific to something mentioned on OneyPlays, otherwise please list them on Zach's page. Thnx 4 bean kewl 8]

Smiling Friends content directly inspired by OneyPlays[]

  • Worm in "Mr. Frog"
    • During an episode of Worms Reloaded, Zach jokingly promised through the in-game chat that he would "put a worm in episode 2", many fans found it humorous that he would end up sticking to his word a few years later, and so a very small worm can be seen in the episode as Charlie is marvelling at Mr. Frog's home zoo.[2]
  • Shrimp's/Worm Odyssey
    • The episode "Shrimp's Odyssey" is a reference to Worm Odyssey, a non-existent SNES game made up by Zach while on OneyPlays, claiming that it was the first game with "rumble features"[3]
  • Mouse Quest II
    • The fictional video game that Shrimp is obsessed with is based on a real game that was played on the series named "Rat Simulator"[4]
  • Shoving a CD holder up one's anus
    • In "Charlie, Pim and Bill vs the Alien", the Alien Dudebros said they imprisoned someone for refusing to shove a cd holder in his ass. This bizarre act originates from an OneyPlays episode, where Chris asked if anyone had an experience where they asked themselves "am I gay?" before testing it out. Whilst Chris meant if they tried to see if they were aroused by gay porn, his co-host and fellow NewGrounds animator Spazkid misinterpreted the question and admitted to inserting a CD case up his ass to test whether he liked it or not.

Smiling Friends content otherwise seen first on OneyPlays[]

  • Forest Demon's Demise
    • The concept for the death of the Forest Demon was first mentioned during the Luigi's Mansion 3 series. The initial idea was a short animated video of a mother returning home to a hungry table of children with a monkey, before tossing it onto the table for the children who would start viciously biting into it while ripping it apart. The idea would instead be reworked into Smiling Friends as the Forest Demon being ripped apart and eaten by a crowd.
  • The Arabian Riff/Snake Charmer Song/Smormu's Song
    • Before Smormu sang the melody in Smiling Friends, Zach brought up the "arabian riff" multiple times, once while implicating Lyle Rath as a snake charmer.
  • Professor Psychotic smashing the Egg with a Book
    • The idea of Professor Psychotic smashing his homunculus egg with a book is directly inspired by a Russian YouTube channel that was first referenced by Zach in Chris' Heart of Darkness playthrough.
  • Charlie saying "Turn on the news, it doesn't matter what channel"
    • In the episode Mr. President, after Jimble gives everybody a billion dollars, Charlie states "Turn on the news, it doesn't matter what channel". This is a direct reference to an OneyPlays episode of Worms Reloaded in which Zach screams "THEY HIT THE PENTAGON! THEY HIT THE F***ING PENTAGON! -Turn on the TV, it doesn't matter what channel..."[5]
