Mr. Landlord is a character in Smiling Friends. He is the psychotic landlord of Allan's apartment complex and the main antagonist of "A Allan Adventure."
Appearance[]
Mr. Landlord is a pale blue, extremely gangly critter with three hairs sprouting from a single spot on his head and two different colored eyes, one red and one green. He exhibits traits of someone addicted to weed and who lives a generally unhealthy lifestyle, such as permanently rosy sclera, a frail body, inflamed gums and yellow teeth.
He usually doesn't wear any clothing, but briefly wore a tattered brown trench coat to cover his explosive vest.
After surviving his suicide attempt, his whole body appears desaturated, likely due to blood loss, and also gains small bumps and warts.
Personality[]
Mr. Landlord is an unhinged and eccentric individual who is constantly obsessing over Allan. He always tries to get Allan to join him in his weed and diet soda-fueled gaming sessions, even planning a $750,000 scheme for 8 months just to get him to play with him. This scheme shows Mr. Landlord's callousness towards other people, as he was indirectly responsible for the deaths of several people and threatened to kill even more people and blow up the entire city should Allan not join him in his simple request. He also acts erratically, randomly screaming certain words when he speaks, laughing hysterically, and scurrying around his apartment complex.
Mr. Landlord is also an obnoxious person, constantly talking smack to Allan and making it impossible to beat him in the game by ramming him and accusing him of not even trying.
Despite his more obnoxious traits, he doesn't seem to do a bad job at being a landlord, as his apartment complex's amenities are all functioning and he doesn't appear to loom the threat of eviction over his tenants. He also has a sense of remorse and shame as he tries to commit hara-kiri upon having his plans foiled, believing that he has failed his ancestors.
Relationships[]
Allan Red[]
Allan is one of the landlord's main tenants. He tries to consistently strike up a friendship with Allan by asking if he “would like to HANG out with him and smoke weed and fill their bellies with DIET soda and play Burnout Revenge for the PS2.” His attempts to do so are always rebuffed. After surviving his seppuku attempt (which he did because Allan disarmed his bomb vest), he vows to get Allan to hang out with him again, implying his obsession with Allan has grown.
Trivia[]
- He was originally designed to be Pim's landlord and was supposed to briefly appear in scene in the Season 1 episode "Shrimp's Odyssey," but he was ultimately cut from the episode for time [1].
- This early concept art also implied that Mr. Landlord was a lawyer in NYC back in the 80's. Whether or not this is still canon is unknown.
